Community Anti Malaria CampaignCOMMUNITY ANTI - MALARIA CAMPAIGN Malaria is a life-threatening disease caused by Plasmodium parasites. The parasites are spread to people through the bites of infected Anopheles mosquitoes, called "malaria vectors", which bite mainly between dusk and dawn. According to the World Health Organization report, in 2008, there were 247 million cases of malaria and nearly one million deaths – mostly among children living in Africa. In Africa a child dies every 45 seconds of Malaria, the disease accounts for 20% of all childhood deaths. Uganda has the third highest deaths from malaria in Africa and some of the highest recorded malaria transmission rates in the continent. On average, a person would receive more than 1,500 infectious bites per year. This creates a heavy burden upon the health system, with malaria accounting for approximately 30%-50% of outpatient care, 15%-20% of admissions and 9%-14% of inpatient deaths. Also the latest figures from the Ministry of Health indicate that about 320 people die each day as a result of the Malaria epidemic in the country Below is a baby in a mosquito net.
Statistical data obtained from DESA, UNDP, UNICEF, UNAIDS and WHO In the 2007/08-budget document to Parliament, the Minister of Health, Dr Stephen Mallinga revealed that malaria treatment and prevention remained one of the biggest challenges facing the country and millions of Ugandans are at risk. Malaria is preventable and curable. In an effort to reduce the burden of malaria, Another Hope Children’s Ministries has started a Community Anti Malaria Campaign in Wakiso Sub-county, Wakiso District in Uganda to supply treated mosquitoes nets to pregnant mothers and children especially those under 5 years of age. We therefore need to help these people with free treated mosquito bed nets to rescue them from Malaria. Each treated bed net costs an equivalent of 5 Euros, 4 GBP or 7 USD.
We are humbly appealing to you to kindly join us in this campaign by supporting us with any amount of money that you can afford to enable us to buy and distribute treated mosquito bed nets to eradicate malaria in our community.
May God bless you as we pray and wait for your kind consideration |
